Ouders

Mutter

Gottfried Benn (1886-1956)

Ich trage dich wie eine Wunde
auf meiner Stirn, die sich nicht schließt.
Sie schmerzt nicht immer. Und es fließt
das Herz sich nicht draus tot.
Nur manchmal bin ich blind und spüre
Blut im Munde

My Mom and Dad

Bill Watterson (1958 -)

My mom and my dad are not what they seem.
Their dull appearance is part of their scheme.
I know of their plans. I know their techniques.
My parents are outer space alien freaks!

They landed on earth in spaceships humongous.
Posing as grownups, they now walk among us.
My parents deny this, but I know the truth.
They're here to enslave me and spoil my youth.

Early each morning, as the sun rises,
Mom and dad put on their earthling disguises.
I knew right away their masks weren't legit.
Their faces are lined - they sag and don't fit.

The earth's gravity makes them sluggish and slow.
They say not to run, wherever I go.
They live by the clock. They're slaves to routines.
They work the year 'round. They're almost machines.

They deny that TV and fried food have much worth.
They cannot be human. They're not of this earth.
I cannot escape their alien gaze,
And they're warping my mind with their alien ways.
For sinister plots, this one is a gem.
They're bringing me up to turn me into them!

FAMILIALE

Nachtgedanken

Heinrich Heine (1797-1856)

Denk ich an Deutschland in der Nacht,
Dann bin ich um den Schlaf gebracht,
Ich kann nicht mehr die Augen schließen,
Und meine heißen Tränen fließen.

Die Jahre kommen und vergehn!
Seit ich die Mutter nicht gesehn,
Zwölf Jahre sind schon hingegangen;
Es wächst mein Sehnen und Verlangen.

Mein Sehnen und Verlangen wächst.
Die alte Frau hat mich behext,
Ich denke immer an die alte,
Die alte Frau, die Gott erhalte!

Die alte Frau hat mich so lieb,
Und in den Briefen, die sie schrieb,
Seh ich, wie ihre Hand gezittert,
Wie tief das Mutterherz erschüttert.

Die Mutter liegt mir stets im Sinn.
Zwölf lange Jahre flossen hin,
Zwölf lange Jahre sind verflossen,
Seit ich sie nicht ans Herz geschlossen.

Deutschland hat ewigen Bestand,
Es ist ein kerngesundes Land,
Mit seinen Eichen, seinen Linden,
Werd´ ich es immer wiederfinden.

Nach Deutschland lechzt ich nicht so sehr,
Wenn nicht die Mutter dorten wär;
Das Vaterland wird nie verderben,
Jedoch die alte Frau kann sterben.

Seit ich das Land verlassen hab,
So viele sanken dort ins Grab,
Die ich geliebt -- wenn ich sie zähle,
So will verbluten meine Seele.

Und zählen muss ich -- Mit der Zahl
Schwillt immer höher meine Qual;
Mir ist, als wälzten sich die Leichen,
Auf meine Brust -- Gottlob! Sie weichen!

Gottlob! Durch meine Fenster bricht
Französisch heitres Tageslicht;
Es kommt mein Weib, schön wie der Morgen
Und lächelt für die deutschen Sorgen.

This Be The Verse

Philip Larkin (1922 - 1985)

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern,
And half at one another´s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Am Bahnhof, bei der Heimkehr vom Skikurs,
Aufzusagen

Christine Nöstlinger (1936- )

Vater, hier bin ich!
Das Bein ist gebrochen.
Den Gips,
den behalt ich
für sieben Wochen.
Walters Vater
wird dich verklagen,
denn ich habe dem Walter
die Brille zerschlagen.
Was von den Skiern
noch übrig ist,
liegt teils auf der Piste,
teils auf dem Mist.
Wegen der Rechnung
für die Fensterscheiben
wird dir der Wirt
persönlich schreiben.
Und den Fotoapparat,
den find ich nicht mehr.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch
zu meiner Wiederkehr!

Parenthood

John Chipman Farrar (1896-1974)

The birches that dance on the top of the hill
Are so slender and young that they cannot keep still,
They bend and they nod at each whiff of a breeze,
For you see they are still just the children of trees.

But the birches below in the valley are older,
They are calmer and straighter and taller and colder.
Perhaps when we've grown up as solemn and grave,
We, too, will have children who do not behave!
